Valarie Tan first started her media career as a jazz DJ for a local arts radio station. She honed her TV journalism skills when she joined Singapore's Channel News Asia as a reporter in 2005. It was there where she covered a wide range of regional and political events, the most memorable, for her was being embedded with relief agencies for a week during the 2006 Yogjakarta earthquake where she provided daily ‘live' reports on the ground. She also conceptualised and was executive producer of "The Big Picture" a weekly arts and entertainment segment on Channel News Asia.

Before joining ActiveTV as producer, Valarie dabbled in business news at Bloomberg in 2009, and provided daily ‘live' reports on Asian financial markets for the channel's primetime morning shows. As a journalist, Valarie has interviewed a wide range of newsmakers from Lady Gaga to New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key.
